Wall hanging using air dry clay and pressed flowers

Clay and pressed flowers go great together!

This is a relatively easy project and is made using air dry clay.  I have this one.

Just roll out a layer of air dry clay about 1/4” or so and use cookie cutters or anything round to create your circles.  These little tiny ones are about an inch and a half in diameter and were made with a small metal cookie cutter but I have made bigger ones using cups or mason jar lids.  Get creative with what you use to shape your clay.

If you intend to hang your project later be sure to create a hole in the clay before you let it dry.  I used a toothpick here but depending on the size of your project you may want to use a straw. Some of my circles I put a hole in the top and bottom so I could hang several in a line.

Let your clay dry overnight .. You will want to flip it over half way through to make sure it dries completely on both sides.

Now take some of your pressed flowers from your nature press and decorate your clay.

Use a paintbrush to paint a layer of Mod Podge on your clay and use tweezers to pick up your flowers and set them in place.

Top with another layer of Mod Podge and leave out to dry completely.  Depending on what you are using these for you may want to top with an additional coat of Mod Podge.

I strung these together and hung from a piece of driftwood I found.  These would also make beautiful necklaces, earrings, fan pulls, gift tags or holiday ornaments. Let me know if you try it and I’d love to see a photo if you do!
